If Microsoft bought Firefox, they would ruin it.
Going with the standard microsoft BS, it would be rebranded, flushed with an "Aero" ui adaption, and pulled into closed-source. Personally, I'd probably end up switching to Opera.

But if they didn't close the source, and just developed it, don't you think that would help by having a standards compliant browser bundled with Windows? Remember, now that Bill Gates is gone, Microsoft could be very different from before.

Not really. Sure, Bill was founder, but people like Allchin, and Balmer were making all the main decisions. I don't think Microsoft will change one bit.

Since Firefox is open source, they can make there own variation without having to buy Mozilla.

Oh, right. Hmm, then how about the use the Gecko engine, and made their own variant and bundled it with Windows?

As for Yahoo, I don't want them out of buisness, I use Flickr which is part of Yahoo. Also, if Yahoo and Windows Live combine and fail, Google has 99% of those markets then (ads and search).

Well, IE is too slow for my taste, and also there is a large community that's developing addons for Firefox, which IE does not have.

As for Yahoo, I don't want them out of business, I use flickr for example, and if Yahoo goes, there goes my photos.

I doubt Mozilla would accept, even if Microsoft offered billions of dollars.

Microsoft has been leaning towards open source recently, but I still wouldn't want them to buy Mozilla. What would Firefox turn into?
