i dont see how that works tho cos im on 8meg broadband and half the time i dont even get 2meg. plus the fact that fiber is up to is it something like 40meg either way?

Depends on the fibre.
8 Meg = 8 Megabits.
8bits to a byte, you should be getting 1000kbytes/sec download, at peak.

That's how it goes.
My 30 meg download maxes out around 4 MB download.

Well then we should also take into account that servers cant have that fast of an upstream most of the time. I usually max out because of the server

I've hit about 2.5 MB download on a single file.
I've maxed out my connection at about 3600 kb/s combined though, downloading 4 HD rips, an OSx86 Rip of Leopard for AMD, and updating an adobe program.
It came to like 3655 or something, and then I was constantly loading my regular forums.
