RE: What Vienna will be
I am glad to hear that Speech will be a big input for the PC, the keyboard is becoming obsolete. :P
Speech and Handwriting will never be as fast or precise as the Keyboard is. Such techniques only makes sense in addition to the keyboard or when you have physical disabilities (like couch potatoes).
Personally I'm more interested into Handwriting for Drawing, Diagraming or Input of Mathematical Formulas. Speech might be mostly interesting as additional Input for Games or for controlling the Mediacenter from the Sofa.

RE: What Vienna will be
I think that one day, Speech will be almost as accurate as the keyboard. I tried the one in Vista, and it was pretty accurate. I think after some more work is done, it will more or less be able to be a reliable input device.

RE: What Vienna will be
well,i support both ideas.i mean, speech might ever be as accurate, but handwriting has come a long way since the times of the newton(read: old, pricy, primative junk) But speech is gettinng accurate
PS for those who dont know, newton was made by apple and was kind of like a old, really junk iphone. kinda different,though.....:P

RE: What Vienna will be
Speech recognition is nearly accurate than before. Maybe in Windows Vienna it will be more accurate than Vista, I think Speech recognition will not replace keyboard or maybe until it's perfect.
Speech will be as accurate as keyboard but it takes time, and also it depends on your input device.
Aside from pie menus, I also imagine that what if Vienna will replace the style of taskbar, instead of buttons and it shows live preview of a window when you point it, it will be replace by a miniturized live window and it can be an icon when it groups. What do you think?:P

RE: What Vienna will be
Hmm, that sounds like a good idea, ArchTech. Perhaps it will be sort of like that. That is kind of like how Vista handels the minimized windows on the task bar.
I think the nice think about voice is that it can be easier to use than a keyboard, as it does not take much time to learn to use voice recognition, as it does for typing.

Your input devise has alot to do with it. I ran a low-quality mic for a wile and of cores it would miss a word or screw it up very badly. I got a good set of recording mic's ($20) and it rarly messed up. Now I wasn't running Vista i was using Dragon Naturaly Speaking. But yeah, a good mic makes all the diffrence.

RE: What Vienna will be
Yeah, cheap mics doesn't perform good when you are using voice recognition, even my headphone w/ built-in mic still not accurate, good quality mics makes difference & I planning to buy one also. :P

RE: What Vienna will be
I have a Logitech headset that cost about $50, and it seems pretty accurate.
As for Voice Recognition on Vista Beta2, I found it to be quite accurate compared to the one in Office 2003.

RE: What Vienna will be
Woooe! $50! well I trust Logitech and looks pretty accurate on it's price, well maybe I will find less price than that & maybe I will use voice recognition frequently when I'm Vista bcz it has Voice Recognition app (XP don't). :P
