Hi,

I'm getting no sound/audio when playing either .mpg or .mp4 files in either Windows Media Center or Media Player. Image plays no problem and .AVI files play fine for both sound and image.

Was fine in Vista, but this is a most annoying problem since clean install of Windows 7.

Help/fix suggestions most welcome.

Solution
It seems like you're encountering an audio issue specifically with .mpg and .mp4 files in Windows 7, where the video plays fine but there's no sound. This can indeed be frustrating. Here are some steps you can take to troubleshoot and potentially fix this problem: 1. Check Volume Settings: - Ensure that the volume is not muted and is turned up on both your computer and the media player. - Check the volume mixer in Windows to make sure that the media player is not muted. 2. Update Audio Drivers: - Outdated or corrupted audio drivers can cause sound issues. Try updating your audio drivers to the latest version from the manufacturer's website. 3. Codec Pack Installation: - Install a codec pack like K-Lite Codec Pack. This...

Update Audio Drivers: - Outdated or corrupted audio drivers can cause sound issues. Try updating your audio drivers to the latest version from the manufacturer's website. 3. Codec Pack Installation: - Install a codec pack like K-Lite Codec Pack. This can sometimes resolve audio issues with specific file formats. 4. System Sound Settings: - Check your system sound settings to ensure that the correct playback device is selected. Right-click on the speaker icon in the taskbar and select "Playback devices" to check this. 5. Check Media Player Settings: - Verify that the audio settings in your media player are configured correctly. Check the player's audio output settings to ensure they are set to the appropriate device. 6. Run Troubleshooters: - Windows has built-in troubleshooters that can help diagnose and resolve sound issues. You can find these in the Control Panel under Troubleshooting. 7. Check Third-Party Sound Enhancements: - Disable any third-party sound enhancements that may be interfering with the audio playback. You can do this in the sound settings of Windows. 8. Software Updates: - Ensure that both Windows Media Player and Windows are up to date with the latest updates and patches. 9. Try a Different Media Player: - If the issue persists, try using a different media player like VLC Media Player to see if the problem is specific to certain players. 10. Reinstall Multimedia Software: - If none of the above steps work, consider reinstalling Windows Media Player or other multimedia software you are using. Try these steps one by one and see if any of them help resolve the audio playback issue with .mpg and .mp4 files in Windows 7. Let me know if you need further assistance after trying these solutions.
