Hi, this is regarding my son's pc. He has a problem with it sticking like the cpu is at 100% & everything sticks for a second n then continues for a few n sticks again. I originally thought it was the Q6600 CPU so i upgraded him with a Q9650 CPU but it still happens.

When he is playing games in full screen it works fine, if he changes it to window mode the sticking happens. When watching youtube video's it happens & its really noticeable as it makes the mouse stick for a second & then continue for a few seconds then it sticks again. I have active smart to monitor the HDD & it states performance is good. The GPU came from my own system & it was working perfectly fine so i don't think its that. The motherboard is bran new as in few months old so could a insufficient PSU cause the sticking especially when the system draws more power than it can provide?

Im out of idea's really as I dont want to go spending more money to find out it wasn't that.

Thanks

It sounds like the issue your son is experiencing with his PC could be related to several factors. Here are some troubleshooting steps you can take to try and pinpoint the cause of the sticking issue: 1. Check CPU Usage: - Check the Task Manager while the issue is occurring to see if any specific process is causing the CPU to spike to 100%. This can help identify if a particular program is causing the problem. 2. Check for Background Processes: - Ensure that there are no unnecessary background processes consuming resources. Close any applications running in the background that are not needed. 3. Update Drivers: - Make sure all drivers, especially GPU, CPU, and chipset drivers, are up to date. Outdated drivers can...

Close any applications running in the background that are not needed. 3. Update Drivers: - Make sure all drivers, especially GPU, CPU, and chipset drivers, are up to date. Outdated drivers can sometimes cause performance issues. 4. Monitor Temperatures: - Use monitoring software to check the temperatures of the CPU and GPU. Overheating can lead to performance drops and stuttering. 5. Power Supply Unit (PSU): - A PSU that is struggling to provide enough power can cause performance issues, especially during high-demand activities like gaming. Make sure the PSU is adequate for the system's requirements. 6. RAM: - Check the RAM usage during the sticking issue. Faulty or insufficient RAM can cause performance problems. 7. Reinstall Operating System: - If all else fails, consider reinstalling the operating system. Sometimes software issues can cause performance problems. 8. Testing Hardware: - Test the hardware components individually if possible to isolate the problematic component. Test the GPU, RAM, and storage drive to ensure they are functioning correctly. Given that the CPU has been upgraded and the GPU was working fine in another system, the issue could potentially be related to the power supply not providing enough stable power during high-demand situations, leading to performance drops. It's worth checking the PSU's specifications and ensuring it meets the power requirements of the system. If the issue persists after trying these steps, it might be helpful to consult with a technician or a knowledgeable friend who can physically inspect the PC and run diagnostics to identify the root cause of the problem.
