Windows Vista Vista Sound conversion problems

Hi Everybody
Has anyone got an answer for the following:
1. I need a freeware programme that will convert to wave files with
2. Compression to under 1 KB for Group emails
3. Codecs missing I think?
4. Can I uninstall Windows Media Player and install 9 or 10

any help would be much appreciated.I don't know anything about compression and very little about Codecs so can we keep it as simple for me as possible. Thanks HeapsSilvercowboy
