I recently purchased a new PC with Win 10. My previous system has Win 8.1. I have noticed that each time I hard boot my PC in the morning my system crashes when I'm on a site such as Youtube. I start watching a video and within 2 minutes the computer freezes. I have removed Chrome and re-installed it. I have updated all current drivers etc. and reset Chromes defaults but the problem continues.

I should note that after the reboot there are no further crashes. Only after a full shut down and restart (the following day) does this problem manifest.

I'm not familiar with Win 10 to know if there are other settings I need to change or perhaps it's something completely different. If anybody can offer a suggestion or solution I would appreciate hearing from you.

Thank you.

Solution
It seems like you are encountering a specific issue with your computer freezing when using Chrome, especially when watching videos on YouTube after a fresh restart. Here are some troubleshooting steps you can take to address this problem:

1. Update Graphics Drivers:

  • Make sure your graphics drivers are up to date as video playback heavily relies on GPU acceleration. You can download the latest drivers from the manufacturer's website or use a tool like GeForce Experience (for NVIDIA) or Radeon Software (for AMD).

    2. Clear Chrome Cache:

  • Clear the browsing data and cache in Chrome. Sometimes a corrupted cache can cause issues with video playback.

    2. Clear Chrome Cache:

  • Clear the browsing data and cache in Chrome. Sometimes a corrupted cache can cause issues with video playback.

    3. Disable Hardware Acceleration:

  • In Chrome settings, disable hardware acceleration. Go to chrome://settings/, scroll down, click on "Advanced," and toggle off "Use hardware acceleration when available" under the System section.

    4. Check for Resource Issues:

  • Use Task Manager to monitor system resources when Chrome is running. Check if CPU, RAM, or disk usage spikes when the freeze occurs.

    5. Disable Chrome Extensions:

  • Disable any unnecessary Chrome extensions that may be causing conflicts. You can do this by typing chrome://extensions/ in the address bar.

    6. System File Checker (SFC) Scan:

  • Run an SFC scan to check for and repair corrupted system files that may be causing the freezing issue. Open Command Prompt as an administrator and type sfc /scannow.

    7. Check for Windows Updates:

  • Ensure your Windows 10 is up to date with the latest updates. Sometimes Microsoft releases patches that may resolve performance issues.

    8. Reset Chrome Settings:

  • If the issue persists, you can try to reset Chrome settings to default. Go to chrome://settings/reset and click on "Restore settings to their original defaults."

    9. Temperature Check:

  • Monitor your system's temperatures to ensure it's not overheating, especially if it's a new PC. Use tools like HWMonitor to check CPU and GPU temperatures.

    10. System Restore:

  • If the issue persists, you may consider restoring your system to a point before the problem started using System Restore.

    11. Additional Information:

  • You can also check the Windows Event Viewer for any error messages that might give you clues about what's causing the system freeze. By following these steps and monitoring the behavior after each change, you should be able to isolate and potentially fix the freezing issue when using Chrome, particularly after a fresh restart.
