Hello WindowsForum.com community! Microsoft has just released Windows 11 Insider Preview Build 23435 to the Dev Channel. This update brings several exciting new features and improvements, especially for File Explorer and accessibility options. Here are the key highlights and their implications for Windows enthusiasts.

A desktop computer screen displaying a photo gallery with various landscape and portrait images.
🖼️ Gallery in File Explorer

One of the most noteworthy additions is the Gallery in File Explorer. It's designed to provide a seamless way to access your photo collection. The Gallery syncs with the All Photos view in the Photos app and prominently features your most recent photos. This will be especially handy for users who
use OneDrive Camera Roll Backup, as new photos will appear instantly at the top.

Key Features of Gallery:

  • Easily access recent photos.
  • Customize which folders are displayed through the Collection dropdown.
  • Add subfolders for more specific content viewing.
  • Integrate with the file picking dialog for easy photo insertion in other applications. This feature is rolling out gradually, so not all Insiders will have access immediately.

🔔 Changes and Improvements

General

Microsoft is continuing its exploration of badging on the Start menu. These badges aim to highlight the benefits of signing in with a Microsoft account (MSA) for users logging
in with local accounts. Keep an eye out for these changes and provide your feedback.

File Explorer

  • Insiders will notice a "pizza" icon on the command bar, indicating the preview of the Windows App SDK version of File Explorer. This switches from WinUI 2 to WinUI 3, though the functionality remains unchanged.

Narrator

Narrator now supports detailed reading for Traditional Chinese characters, thanks to a newly created dictionary. This enhancement aims to improve the experience for users interacting with Traditional Chinese through the IME candidate window, although it currently supports the Taiwan language pack only.

Settings

New presence sensor privacy
settings and APIs are introduced. Devices with compatible sensors will allow users to manage privacy by blocking or allowing apps from accessing the sensors. Notably, all data processing happens locally to maximize privacy.

🛠️ Fixes

Microsoft has addressed several issues in this build:
  • Taskbar & System Tray: Fixed a few explorer.exe crashes.
  • Input: Updated the TextInput policy to enforce showing the touch keyboard even with a hardware keyboard attached.
  • Settings: Resolved crashes when navigating Windows Update-related pages.
  • Live Captions: Fixed issues related to language settings and enhanced speech recognition.

⚠️ Known Issues

Several known issues persist, particularly with File
Explorer's new Gallery feature. These include:
  • Double-click requirement for initial load.
  • Disabled live updates.
  • Performance issues with thumbnail loading for dehydrated cloud files.
  • Specific file types like HEIC may not render correctly.

🔧 For Developers

The latest Windows Insider SDK is available, with detailed packages for .NET, C++, and BuildTools. These are designed to integrate better with CI/CD pipelines and target different results based on the Insider Channel.

🚀 Dev Channel Insights

This build comes in the context of the Dev Channel's reboot. Previous Dev Channel users on 25000 series builds have moved to the Canary Channel. Those who
wish to return to the Dev Channel need to perform a clean installation of Windows 11 to receive 23000 series builds. The Dev Channel will continue to receive builds that may never be released to the general public as Microsoft tests new concepts and gathers feedback.

changes to document.

A modern desktop setup with a large monitor displaying Windows 11 in a nighttime cityscape.
What’s New in Build 25346

Content Adaptive Brightness Control (CABC) on Plugged-in Devices Including Desktop PCs

Content Adaptive Brightness Control (CABC) is a feature that dims or brightens display areas based on the content shown, aiming to balance reduced power consumption with visual quality to save battery life. Starting with this build, this feature will be available on devices such as laptops and 2-in-1s, even when plugged into a charger.
  • Settings Path: Settings > System > Display > Brightness & color
  • Options: Off, Always, and On Battery Only (default for battery-powered devices). Note: CABC needs
to be enabled by the OEM. As a result, it may not be available on all devices. Feedback: Please file feedback in Feedback Hub (WIN + F) under Display and Graphics > Adaptive Brightness.

Changes and Improvements

[Remote Desktop]

  • Redesigned the connection bar for remote desktop sessions with a new refreshed light/dark mode design that aligns with Windows 11 design principles.

[File Explorer]

  • When sharing a local file to Outlook contacts, there's now an option to quickly email the file to yourself.

  • This capability is not available for files stored in
OneDrive folders as OneDrive has its own share experience.

[Taskbar & System Tray]

  • New: Added the option to diagnose network problems when right-clicking on the network icon in the system tray.

[Settings]

  • Introduced new presence sensor privacy settings and APIs. Manage privacy and block/allow specific apps from accessing compatible presence sensors. [Graphics]

  • Easier configuration of HDR state when running on battery. Navigate to Settings > System > Display > HDR to configure whether HDR (or HDR video streaming) remains turned on when your PC is running on battery.

For Developers

You can download the latest Windows Insider SDK Download Windows Insider Preview SDK. SDK NuGet packages are
now also available at NuGet Gallery | Home. These packages provide more granular access to the SDK and better integration in CI/CD pipelines. SDK flights are published for both the Canary and Dev Channels, so choose the right version for your Insider Channel. Remember to use adaptive code when targeting new APIs to ensure your app runs on all customer machines, particularly when building against the Dev Channel SDK. Feature detection is recommended over OS version checks.

About the Canary Channel

The Canary Channel previews platform changes requiring longer lead time before release. Some examples include major changes to the
Windows kernel and new APIs. Builds from the Canary Channel aren't tied to any specific release of Windows, and some changes may never ship. These builds, "hot off the presses," flight soon after they are built, meaning minimal validation and documentation. Major issues might require reinstalling Windows. There will be limited documentation, and only posts for builds with new features. Important Insider Links:

Hello Windows Insiders! Today, we are releasing Windows 11 Insider Preview Build 25357 to the Canary Channel. Here’s what's new and improved in this build:

s New in Windows 11 Insider Preview Build 25357'. Futuristic tower with neon lights at dusk, overlooking a sprawling cityscape.
What's New in Build 25357:

New Widget: Facebook Facebook is rolling out a preview version of their widget. To try it out:
  • Download the Facebook app from the [Microsoft Store](Microsoft Store link) or update to the latest version of the app.
  • Open the widgets board and navigate to the widgets picker by clicking the “+” button at the top-right of the board to pin your widget. As you give this and other new widgets
a try, let us know what you think through the Widgets feedback link in the widgets picker. Expect to see additional new widgets as more developers create and release widgets for their apps. If you’re a Windows developer interested in creating a widget, watch our [tutorial video](Tutorial Video link). For an overview of the Windows widgets experience and design guidance for creating your own widgets, see [Windows widgets](Windows Widgets link). For more information on creating a Win32 widget provider, see [Widget service providers](Widget Service Providers link). For information on PWA widget providers, see [Build PWA-driven widgets](PWA Widgets link). Changes and
    Improvements:
    General:
  • The new volume mixer experience in Quick Settings mentioned earlier is now available for all Insiders in the Canary Channel.
    Volume Mixer Experience
For Developers: You can download the latest Windows Insider SDK at Download Windows Insider Preview SDK. SDK NuGet packages are now also available at https://www.nuget.org/packages/WindowsSDK and include:
  • .NET TFM packages for use in .NET apps as described at Download Windows Insider Preview SDK.
  • C++ packages for Win32 headers and libs per architecture.
  • BuildTools package when you just need tools like MakeAppx.exe, MakePri.exe, and SignTool.exe. These NuGet packages provide more granular access to the SDK and better integration in CI/CD
pipelines. SDK flights are now published for both the Canary and Dev Channels, so be sure to choose the right version for your Insider Channel. Remember to use adaptive code when targeting new APIs to make sure your app runs on all customer machines, particularly when building against the Dev Channel SDK. Feature detection is recommended over OS version checks, as OS version checks are unreliable and will not work as expected in all cases.

About the Canary Channel

The Canary Channel is the place to preview platform changes that require longer lead time before getting released to customers. Some
examples of this include major changes to the Windows kernel, new APIs, etc. Builds that we release to the Canary Channel should not be seen as matched to any specific release of Windows and some of the changes we try out in the Canary Channel will never ship, and others could show up in future Windows releases when they’re ready. The builds that will be flighted to the Canary Channel are “hot off the presses,” flighting very soon after they are built, which means very little validation and documentation will be done before they are offered to Insiders. These builds
could include major issues that could result in not being able to use your PC correctly or even in some rare cases require you to reinstall Windows. We will offer limited documentation for the Canary Channel, but we will not publish a blog post for every flight – only when new features are available in a build. Our Canary Channel won’t receive daily builds; however, we may ramp up releasing builds more frequently in the future. The desktop watermark you see at the lower right corner of your desktop is normal for these pre-release builds.

Hello Windows Insiders! Today, we are releasing Windows 11 Insider Preview Build 22621.1690 and Build 22624.1690 (KB5026447) to the Beta Channel. Here’s what’s new and improved in these builds:

A glowing blue digital ring floats over a neon-lit futuristic grid with pink bars.
Build Differentiation:

  • Build 22624.1690: New features rolling out.
  • Build 22621.1690: New features off by default.

Reminder:

Insiders who were previously on Build 22623 will automatically move to Build 22624 via an enablement package. This package artificially increments the build number for updates with new features getting rolled out and turned on, making it easier to differentiate from devices with updates off by default. This approach is specific to the Beta
Channel and is not indicative of any changes or plans for final feature rollouts. Insiders in the group with new features turned off by default (Build 22621.xxxx) can check for updates and choose to install the update with features rolling out (Build 22624.xxxx).

What’s New in Build 22621.1690 & Build 22624.1690:

New Widget: Facebook
  • Facebook is rolling out a preview version of their widget. To give it a try, download the Facebook app from the Microsoft Store or update to the latest version of the app. Then open the widgets board and navigate to the widgets picker by clicking the
“+” button at the top-right of the board to pin your widget.
  • Expect to see additional new widgets as more developers create and release widgets for their apps. For more details on developing widgets, see the Windows widgets and documentation. Changes and Improvements: General:
  • We are trying out providing alerts under Settings > Accounts advising users to add a recovery email address or phone number to their Microsoft account to ensure users never lose access to their account. Start Menu:
  • We are trying out a small change with some Windows Insiders where the “Recommended” section of the Start
menu is changed to “For you”. Feedback can be provided via Feedback Hub.

Fixes in Build 22624.1690:

Input:
  • Fixed an issue impacting the ability to launch the touch keyboard/PIN entry on the login screen. Notifications:
  • Fixed another 2FA code pattern which wasn’t being recognized. If you see any others, please file feedback! Task Manager:
  • Addressed an issue causing random processes to sometimes get grouped under Microsoft Edge even though they weren’t related.
  • Fixed an issue impacting Task Manager reliability.
  • The search icon should be easier to see now when using a contrast theme.
  • Made the navigation pane a bit narrower.
    Text will wrap if necessary.
  • Added access keys to the creation of live kernel memory dump file submenu.
  • Pressing enter when keyboard focus is on one of the sections (like Memory) in the Performance page should now switch sections.
  • Resizing Task Manager from the top of the window should work now.

Fixes for BOTH Build 22621.1690 & Build 22624.1690:

  • Addressed a race condition in Windows Local Administrator Password Solution (LAPS) causing the Local Security Authority Subsystem Service (LSASS) to stop responding when the system processes multiple local account operations simultaneously.

Known Issues:

Search on the Taskbar:

About the Beta Channel:

The Beta Channel is where we preview experiences closer to what we’ll ship to our general customers. The Dev and Beta Channels represent parallel development paths, so some features and experiences may show up in
the Beta Channel first. This does not mean every feature we try out in the Beta Channel will ship. We encourage Insiders to read this Announcing Windows 11 Insider Preview Build 22621.1690 and 22624.1690 that outlines the ways we’ll try things out in both the Dev and Beta Channels. Hello Windows Insiders! We are excited to announce the release of Windows 11 Insider Preview Build 22621.1755 and Build 22624.1755 (KB5026438) to the Beta Channel. Here's what's new and improved in this update:

A sleek desktop PC with a wireless keyboard displays Windows 11 on a clean desk.
Build Differentiation:

  • Build 22624.1755: New features rolling out.
  • Build 22621.1755: New features off by default.

Reminder:

Insiders who were previously on Build 22623 will automatically get moved to Build 22624 via an enablement package. This package artificially increments the build number for updates with new features getting rolled out, making it easier to differentiate from devices with updates off by default. This approach is specific to
the Beta Channel and is not indicative of any changes or plans for final feature rollouts. Insiders in the group with new features turned off by default (Build 22621.xxxx) can check for updates and choose to install the update with features rolling out (Build 22624.xxxx).

Fixes in Build 22624.1755:

Settings:
  • Settings should no longer crash when attempting to uninstall an app while using grid view. Input:
  • Fixed an issue with the Pinyin IME where the insert text button wasn't displaying correctly in some cases.

Fixes for BOTH Build 22621.1755 & Build 22624.1755:

  • Addressed a race condition in Windows Local Administrator
Password Solution (LAPS). The Local Security Authority Subsystem Service (LSASS) might stop responding when the system processes multiple local account operations simultaneously. The access violation error code is 0xc0000005.

Known Issues:

Search on the Taskbar:
  • If you have the Bing button in the search box on the taskbar and you restart your computer, you may see the daily rotating search highlight for some time before getting the Bing button back. Widgets:
  • When you launch the widgets board for the first time, you may see momentarily placeholders of the widgets/feed cards of the old 2-column layout even if your device supports
    3-columns.

Hello Windows Insiders, Today we are releasing Windows 11 Insider Preview Build 25370 to the Canary Channel.

Glowing neon waves and spheres reflect over a cracked, shiny surface in a futuristic nightscape.
REMINDER:

As builds released to the Canary Channel are “hot off the presses,” we will offer limited documentation for builds flighted to the Canary Channel (no known issues for example), but we will not publish a blog post for every flight – only when new features are available in a build. Like the https://blogs.windows.com/windows-insider/2023/05/19/announcing-windows-11-insider-preview-build-25369/, this build has some new features and changes to document.

What’s New in Build 25370

Support for vTPM in Hyper-V on Windows on Arm (Arm64) Builds

After upgrading your host OS to the latest flighted build (Build 25370 and higher), you will now be able to upgrade guest Windows on Arm VMs to Windows 11 Insider Preview builds as it will detect the TPM 2.0 requirement.

Changes and Improvements

Networking

  • Command Line:
  • Added support for bridging adapters via command line using netsh. [*Wi-Fi Enhancements:
  • Passpoint Wi-Fi networks will now support enhanced connection performance and will display a URL in Quick Settings to provide information to users about the venue or event.
  • Added WPA3 support to the Phone Link instant hotspot feature for more secure connections to a phone’s hotspot. Also made fixes to respect metered connection settings, reduce duplicate profiles, and show the phone’s display name in the network list.

Settings

[*Advanced Network Settings:
  • Added links to advanced properties for network adapters and internet properties under Settings > Network & internet > Advanced network settings.

For Developers

You can download the latest Windows Insider SDK at Download Windows Insider Preview SDK. SDK NuGet packages are now also flighting at NuGet Gallery | Packages matching WindowsSDK which include: [*.NET TFM packages* for use in .NET apps as described at Download Windows Insider Preview SDK [C++ packages** for Win32 headers and libs per architecture. [*BuildTools package when you just need tools like MakeAppx.exe, MakePri.exe, and SignTool.exe. These NuGet packages provide more granular access to the SDK and better integration in CI/CD pipelines.

The Canary Channel is the place to preview platform changes that require longer-lead time before getting released to customers. Some examples of this include major changes to the Windows kernel, new APIs, etc. Builds flighted to the Canary Channel should not be seen as matched to any specific release of Windows and some of the changes we try out will never ship, while others could show up in future Windows releases when they’re ready. The builds that are flighted to the Canary Channel are “hot off the presses,” flighting very soon after they are built, which means very little validation and documentation will be done before they are offered to Insiders. These builds could include major issues that could result in not being able to use your PC correctly or even in some rare cases require you to reinstall Windows.
